Saimers’ Cafe
Making backyard farming a family affair In the west of Boston, Massachusetts, is a sprawling home on a two-acre plot. In its backyard, hens cluck around, children collect eggs or jostle in the playhouse, the father is engaged in woodwork and the mother is tending to garden patches - tomato, cucumber, watermelon, bell pepper and more. Welcome to the home of Gavin Histen. His backyard farm, started two years ago, is now a family affair. The hobby and its benefit are best summed up by Gavin: Saimer families in focus “We just get a lot of enjoyment out of doing this, connects our children to their food a little more and gives them a better understanding of where things come from.” 20 Gavin Histen & his children, Freya & Finnegan Biology, US
