Sai Life Sciences Sustainability Report - 2023-24

108 We have taken numerous measures to establish a proactive safety culture in recognising, treating, and preventing hazards at work. Risk assessments and hazard identification are conducted for all the operations in all departments in all our locations. a. Adequate engineering controls are provided to mitigate risk and prevent damage to personnel, equipment, or buildings, based on the severity and frequency of risks. 100% of our sites are covered under Employee health & safety risk assessment. Some of the examples include: • Group LOTO procedure • New pyrophoric storage shed was revamped for dispensing pyrophoric materials • Automatic fire suppression system in the coal storage yard • Ventilation system in chemical storage areas • Zero access machine guarding • Closed solvent transfer system in the laboratory Pre-Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR) is conducted at all our locations to ensure all new and modified equipment and facilities undergo a thorough safety assessment before they are commissioned for use, emphasizing our dedication to the well-being of our employees and the integrity of our operations. We are enabled using PHA pro HazOp software. There is an Industrial Hygiene (IH) expert in the Corporate HSE function who drives IH programs across the sites. The IH programs are implemented across our sites in the form of “Industrial Hygiene Qualitative Risk Assessment” in which we document qualitative risk assessments for each unit operation and the associated activities. Our approach has a strong foundation in the principles of process safety management. Risk assessment is conducted for new processes, equipment and facility and for existing processes if there is a change in process chemistry, equipment and facility. A cross functional team comprising representative from Manufacturing, Warehouse, Engineering, Projects, HSE, Process Engineering and Technology Absorption Team lead risk assessment studies. Robust controls are established based on the process based risk assessments to eliminate and minimize hazards. We have a digital cloud-based software Saismart for incident reporting where employees report near misses, unsafe acts and conditions, injuries or illnesses. Incident investigation is carried out and CAPA is tracked to closure online. This enables real time incident reporting and provides various trends with actionable insights. The PSSR is conducted before starting or re-starting the process operation to ensure the as-built condition is the same as the design with respect to HSE requirements. The compliance with the recommendations is presented here.
