Sai Life Sciences Sustainability Report - 2023-24

116 We support the initiatives undertaken by the Janyaa Foundation across 20 chosen Zilla Parishad High Schools in Mulugu District. Janyaa Foundation is committed to transform education by promoting experiential learning. It aims to empower underprivileged children with creative problem-solving skills through the practical application of science and math in their daily lives. Sai’s partnership with Janyaa targets to equip over 3200+ government school students with practical science and math education, through the Janyaa Lab in a Box learning approach, enabling them to utilize their learning in their everyday lives for the betterment of their families and communities. As a science company, we champion creativity and learning through experimentation. Janyaa pioneered the Lab In a Box program in 2009 when mobile labs were more prevalent. This innovation not only empowers teachers to impart knowledge to children experientially, it also helps children understand and retain concepts better as they have access to the learning materials at all times. This program has components that make it unique by enabling children to impact their communities through the knowledge they gain with the program. The Janyaa Lab In a Box (JLIB) Kit comprises 340 state- of-the-art science and math experiments developed in partnership with Stanford alumni, government teachers, and science/mathematics experts. The kit comprises 5 boxes of science experiments for 6th to 10th grades and one box for math experiments for all the 5 grades. The kit also comes with index cards that map to all the chapters in the textbooks. Janyaa’s JLIB program has achieved remarkable success within a span of just 10 months across all 20 schools under the Sai Life Sciences project. Sai’s community development work ensures sustainability is embedded in its programs. For instance, currently, there are 600 students actively participating in Janyaa Science-Math Clubs across the 20 schools. These clubs play a vital role in ensuring the safety and proper maintenance of Janyaa Kits. Students are involved in monitoring and safeguarding the equipment, ensuring its longevity and effectiveness for future use. In parallel, Janyaa Eco Clubs have been established with a total of 120 students actively engaged in environmental conservation activities. These clubs aim to instill environmental consciousness among students and promote sustainable practices within their school communities. The testimonials of teachers and students alike highlight the transformative impact of Janyaa, not only on academic performance but also on students’ confidence, attendance, and interest in science and math. Direct/ Indirect Beneficiaries: 3200+ Students 80 Teachers 20 Headmasters 80 School Management Committee Members 6000+ Parents The improvement from baseline to endline reveals 19% increase in math scores and an 29% improvement in science across all grades.
