Sai Life Sciences Sustainability Report - 2023-24

47 Biodegradable Packaging: Adopting biodegradable and compostable packaging materials wherever feasible. Previously, we used HDPE drums for storing solid raw materials during their transfer from the warehouse to production. To reduce plastic usage, we have replaced these drums with biodegradable PP Kraft paper woven sacks for the interim transfer of raw materials to production blocks. These eco-friendly sacks not only reduce our reliance on plastic but also serve a dual purpose. After detoxification, we reuse the same sacks for the storage of hazardous waste. This approach not only cuts down on plastic drum usage but also promotes the reuse of biodegradable bags. We have replaced the plastic poly bags with the bio-degradable bags in the packing and disposal of trashes. Packaging Optimization: Minimizing packaging materials without compromising product protection. We report a consumption of 151107 Kg of packaging material in the reporting year. Recycling and Recovery: Implementing efficient packaging recycling and recovery programs. At our R&D site, we replaced the Sustainable Packaging Specialized treatment for safe disposal of hazardous substances Key solvents used across all sites Solvent Quantity (MT) Methanol 2976 Dichloro Methane 1550 Toluene 1253 Iso Propyl Alcohol 850 Hexane 626 Workers from manufacturing areas, laboratories, and warehouses identify materials that are hazardous and require specialized disposal procedures. These materials, based on their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), are referred to the Product Research & Development (PR&D) team for determining the appropriate disposal method. Disposal methods include quenching, detoxification, and neutralization. Once the suitable method is identified, materials are disposed of following safety recommendations and precautions. Additionally, employees receive training on the various disposal methods to ensure safe and effective handling of hazardous materials. All the material and leftover intermediate residue will safely disposed to co-processing units to use as an alternative fuel. plastic poly bags with the bio-degradable bags for trash waste packing Materials/chemical: Our production of intermediates and API majorly involves the use of solvents as raw material input, the list of top solvents used for the reporting year are tabulated below: Energy Manufacturing activities consume substantial amounts of energy, and within the contract manufacturing sector, our extensive research and development, and scale-up activities are particularly energy- intensive. Recognizing this, we prioritize to reduce the environmental impact of our energy consumption patterns. We aim to achieve this by improving energy efficiency and reducing overall energy use in our operations. By prioritizing energy efficiency, we not only reduce our carbon footprint but also enhance operational effectiveness, driving both environmental and economic benefits.
