Sai Life Sciences and AstraZeneca Publish Study on ReactIR-Guided Scale-Up of Iodination Process
21 May 2026
Sai Life Sciences and AstraZeneca have published a study titled “ReactIR Monitoring of Turbo-Hauser Base Formation Enables a Robust Iodination Reaction During an Early Scale-Up Campaign,” highlighting the application of real-time analytical monitoring and kinetic modeling to support process development and scale-up.
The publication describes the use of ReactIR to monitor the formation of the Turbo-Hauser base (TMPMgCl·LiCl), a key reagent in the synthesis of an important intermediate. By developing a kinetic model for the reagent's formation, the teams gained a deeper understanding of the underlying reaction kinetics, enabling a more systematic and reproducible approach to process development.
The insights generated through this work proved valuable during an early scale-up campaign, supporting the development of a robust and reliable iodination protocol. The approach ultimately enabled the successful preparation of the key intermediate at decagram scale.
The study demonstrates how the integration of real-time analytical tools with kinetic modeling can strengthen process understanding and support more confident scale-up decisions. It also reflects the value of scientific collaboration in addressing process development challenges and advancing scalable manufacturing solutions.
