Sai Life Sciences Expands Hydrogenation Capacity at Bidar Unit IV
26 May 2026
Sai Life Sciences has expanded its hydrogenation capabilities at its Unit IV manufacturing facility in Bidar, Karnataka, further strengthening its ability to support complex chemical manufacturing and scale-up programs across development and commercial stages.
The expansion, which became operational in March, includes the addition of two new hydrogenation reactors with capacities of 8 KL and 6 KL. These complement the facility's existing hydrogenation infrastructure, which comprises four reactors ranging from 0.5 KL to 4 KL, providing customers with greater scale flexibility and manufacturing capacity for hydrogenation-intensive processes.
Hydrogenation is a critical transformation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and is widely used in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and advanced intermediates. Many hydrogenation reactions require precise process control, specialized equipment and robust safety systems to enable reliable execution at scale.
The expanded hydrogenation block is equipped with automation systems designed to support safer and more efficient operations, including automated process monitoring, controlled hydrogen handling, interlocks and integrated safety systems for critical process parameters. Together, these capabilities enable enhanced process control, operational reliability and scalability across a wide range of hydrogenation reactions.
The investment further strengthens Unit IV's manufacturing platform for complex chemistry and supports increasing customer requirements for hydrogenation processes across development, scale-up and commercial manufacturing programs.
